SISP to be featured on BBC Landward programme

Murray Swapp, Access Projects Manager for OATS, will be appearing on BBC Landward on Thursday 12 May 2022, in their feature about the Skye Iconic Sites Project.

Murray was interviewed by Dougie Vipond last month as work was about to get underway on the construction of two bridges on the access path to the Fairy Pools. The bridges will make it easier for the less confident and less able to cross the burns, particularly in high water. They should be completed by the end of May, in time for the busiest months of the tourist season.

The programme will be broadcast first on Thursday 12 May at 20.30 on BBC Scotland, and then on:

  • Sunday 15 May at 09.30 on BBC Two (broadcast across the UK)
  • Sunday 15 May at 20.30 on BBC Scotland
  • Monday 16 May at 20.00 on BBC One Scotland

The programme will be available to view on iPlayer shortly after broadcast.

The Skye Iconic Sites Project (SISP) is making major improvements at three of Skye’s busiest tourist destinations.

Currently, the biggest project OATS is managing, SISP is addressing the lack of tourist infrastructure and interpretation at the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and the Fairy Pools, and improving the visitor experience for a wider range of people.

The work includes developing new paths, bridges, and viewpoints, and restoring existing paths and surrounding habitat damaged by the huge increase in visitors in recent years. Information points and signage will provide a programme of coordinated interpretation.
