Path Map

Glas Allt

The Glas Allt path is the less well known route to the summit of Lochnagar but is so worth the effort to do as it offers fantastic views back across the Mounth and over Loch Muick . The path starts behind the magnificent Royal Lodge much favoured by Queen Victoria and latterly by Prince Charles . A short distance from the start you climb through a narrow gorge at the head of which the beautiful Glas-Allt-Shiel waterfall cascades down offering the chance to admire the fall and perhaps rest a while to absorb the views and the sheltered surroundings. Further on you arrive at a long flat easy walking plateau between Creag a’ Ghlas -uillt and Cuidhe Crom before the final ascent to the end of the path at OS 853 248. From here if you wish to continue it is an reasonably short distance to the summit of Lochnagar.
